The Simplex 4098-9733E is an E-Series analog heat sensor for high-humidity environments. First, the sensor measures local temperature with a fast-response thermistor. Then, it digitizes the reading and transmits the value to the panel about every four seconds. As a result, the panel performs the alarm decision, not the head.
Simplex 4098-9733E Detection Modes
The 4098-9733E supports fixed-temperature sensing, rate-of-rise sensing, or both. Specifically, fixed thresholds program to 135 °F (57.2 °C) or 155 °F (68 °C) at the FACU. In addition, rate-of-rise selects either 15 °F (8.3 °C) or 20 °F (11.1 °C) per minute. Furthermore, utility temperature monitoring spans 32 °F to 155 °F (0 °C to 68 °C) for freeze warnings and HVAC alerts.
Spacing and Listing
UL Standard 521 lists the sensor at 60 × 60 ft (18.3 m) spacing for the 135 °F setting. Also, the 155 °F setting lists at 40 × 40 ft (12.2 m). FM spacing depends on RTI classification — 20 × 20 ft for fixed-only and 50 × 50 ft when rate-of-rise is selected. Sounder bases additionally carry a UL 464 listing.
Construction and Environment
The head is sealed against rear airflow entry. In addition, the electronics are EMI/RFI shielded for industrial environments. The humidity range covers 10 to 95 % RH non-condensing, which suits the unit to laundries, kitchens, and processing rooms. Furthermore, operating temperature spans 32 °F to 122 °F (0 °C to 50 °C) and the housing is frost white.
Communications and Bases
The base auto-selects IDNet or MAPNET II addressing. Then, screw terminals accept 18–14 AWG wiring. Also, the integral LED pulses on power and turns steady for alarm or trouble. Compatible bases include the 4098-9792E standard, 4098-9793E isolator (IDNet), 4098-9767E IDNet2 isolator, 4098-9789E relay-ready, 4098-9791E four-wire relay, 4098-9780E two-wire relay, and 4098-9794E sounder. Compatible panels include the 4007ES, 4010, 4010ES, 4100ES, and 4008 on IDNet, plus the 4020, 4100, and 4120 on MAPNET II.
