The Altronix SMP5 is a compact power supply and battery charger board. It converts a low-voltage AC input into a 6VDC, 12VDC, or 24VDC selectable output at up to 4A.
First, an external Altronix plug-in transformer feeds low-voltage AC into the board. Use the TP1640 for 6VDC, the T2428100 for 12VDC, or the T2428175 for 24VDC. Then the SMP5 regulates that input to the selected DC output.
In addition, the SMP5 includes a built-in sealed lead acid / gel battery charger. Therefore, on AC loss the unit transfers to standby battery instantly with zero voltage drop on the output.

Intended Applications — Access, Security, and CCTV
Per the Altronix data sheet, the SMP5 is intended for access control, security, and CCTV system accessories that require additional power. Therefore, it suits door strikes, maglocks, intercoms, sensors, and small camera installs. However, the SMP5 data sheet does not list UL 864, UL 294, UL 603, or NFPA 72 agency approvals. As a result, it should not be used as a fire-alarm or NAC power source. For UL 864 fire-alarm NAC power, choose an Altronix model such as FireSwitch108, AL842ULADA, or AL602ULADA.
