The STI STI-9610 Steel Web Stopper is a surface-mount cage for smoke detectors. First, it shields ceiling photoelectric, ionization, and combination heads from vandalism, ball impact, and accidental damage. In addition, the open wire mesh allows smoke and room air to reach the sensing chamber. As a result, detection performance is not blocked.
STI STI-9610 construction
First, the cage is formed from 9-gauge corrosion-resistant polyester-coated steel wire. Specifically, the high-profile surface-mount unit measures 8.25 in. H x 8.25 in. W x 6 in. D. Therefore, the extra depth clears sounder bases, isolator bases, and high-profile detector housings. Also, the surface-mount design saves cutting a flush opening.
Installation
First, the installer marks the ceiling per the included template. Then, the frame is anchored with the supplied clamps and hardware. Next, the cage hinges over the detector and locks closed. Finally, the detector remains serviceable without removing the cage. Furthermore, sensitivity testing and cleaning can be performed through the wire mesh.
