Potter Electric Signal (VSM) Vault sound microphone

The Potter Electric Signal VSM is the vault sound microphone for the Potter VSA series vault sound alarm system. First, the VSM extends acoustic coverage beyond the single microphone built into the VSA-1 controller. Then, each VSM connects back to the VSA-1 controller through the system’s 1/2-inch conduit run. As a result, the VSM increases vault sound-attack detection coverage room by room.

The VSM is a microphone-only device. Specifically, all alarm processing happens at the VSA-1 controller. In addition, the VSM enclosure includes a tamper switch wired into the VSA-1’s supervision circuit. However, the VSM does not include its own alarm relay, accumulator, or test button. Specifically, all those functions live on the VSA-1.

System scaling

Up to eight (8) VSM microphones can extend a single VSA-1 controller. Specifically, that yields up to ten (10) microphones per system. In other words, the VSA-1’s built-in microphone supports two scaling options. Specifically, those options are nine VSMs in extended config or eight VSMs in the standard kit. Therefore, the VSA system scales acoustic protection across larger or multi-room vaults. In addition, Potter recommends installing at least one VSA-1 or VSM in every 12-foot by 12-foot area.

Wiring

All wiring between the VSA-1 and VSM units must run inside 1/2-inch conduit. Furthermore, the wiring supervision is provided by the VSA-1 controller. Therefore, do not use the VSM tampers — wiring supervision happens upstream at the VSA-1.
