The POTTER ZA-42 is a 4-zone expansion adder module for the Potter PFC-5004E conventional fire alarm panel. Specifically, the ZA-42 adds four Class B (Style B) initiating circuits to the host panel. Furthermore, those four circuits can alternatively be wired as two Class A (Style D) circuits.
How the Potter ZA-42 expands the PFC-5004E
The base PFC-5004E ships with four Class B initiating zones standard. Then adding the ZA-42 grows the panel to eight Class B zones or four Class A zones. As a result, one panel covers small-to-medium commercial, residential, multifamily, institutional, and industrial buildings. In addition, the ZA-42 also expands the panel’s notification capacity. Therefore, the system gains a total of four notification circuits, each rated at 1.7 amps.
Installation and integration
The ZA-42 fastens directly to the inside of the PFC-5004E front faceplate. Then it plugs in for both communication and power through the panel’s expansion connector. Furthermore, a single jumper on the main fire alarm board is repositioned to enable supervision of the expansion board. As a result, installers can field-upgrade an existing PFC-5004E without rewiring the original zones.
Important compatibility note
The ZA-42 is built specifically for the Potter PFC-5004E expandable conventional panel. Also, the PFC-5004E uses DIP-switch configuration rather than addressable programming. Therefore, the ZA-42 is not a SLC loop module and does not work with addressable panels.
