The Edwards 151-7Z-12K reed switch is a non-contact magnetic interlock and position sensor in the 151 Series GuardSwitch family. First, this is an industrial machine-guarding product — not a fire alarm device. Specifically, it monitors guard, door, or hatch position on machinery such as conveyors, packagers, robotic cells, and process enclosures. Therefore, it interfaces with PLCs, safety relays, and machine-control circuits rather than fire alarm panels.

What the Edwards 151-7Z-12K reed switch does

This switch senses the presence of a matching magnet actuator without physical contact. As a result, there are no mechanical parts to wear out. In addition, the polyurethane-enameled aluminum housing tolerates oil, coolant, and washdown environments at IP67. Then the normally open reed contact closes when the “Z” actuator magnet comes within sensing range.

What this switch is NOT

However, the 151-7Z-12K is not a fire alarm device, a strobe, or a door-holder reed. Therefore, it does not carry UL 268, UL 464, UL 1971, or NFPA 72 listings. Furthermore, it is not intended for life-safety door coordination or smoke-control applications.
