Gentex (GES3-24WR) Strobe only, selectable candela strobe, wall mount, red faceplate

The Gentex GES3-24WR is a 24 VDC strobe-only notification appliance from the Gentex Commander3 (GE3) Series. It offers tamperproof field-selectable candela settings of 15, 30, 60, 75, and 110. As a result, the GES3-24WR can be specified once and field-set to match the room. Furthermore, it ships with a red faceplate and plain (no lettering) bezel for wall-mount installation.

Gentex GES3-24WR Specifications

The GES3-24WR operates at 24 VDC nominal. In addition, it accepts an input voltage range of 16–33 V on filtered DC or full-wave-rectified power. Also, the strobe maintains a 1–2 Hz flash rate regardless of input voltage. Furthermore, the candela setting is tamperproof — unauthorized changes trigger a trouble signal at the fire alarm control panel.

Per the Gentex datasheet, UL Max regulated operating current at 24 VDC is 42 mA at 15 cd, 58 mA at 30 cd, 97 mA at 60 cd, 116 mA at 75 cd, and 161 mA at 110 cd. As a result, the GES3-24WR has the lowest current draw in its class. Therefore, it allows more devices per NAC than competing selectable-candela strobes.

Installation Notes for Gentex GES3-24WR

First, the GES3-24WR mounts to a standard single-gang, double-gang, or double workbox without an adapter plate. Then, the unit ships with the Gentex Super-Slide® mounting bracket. Also, the bracket allows prewiring and supervision testing without removing the strobe head. In addition, the Checkmate® feature lets installers verify voltage drop without disconnecting the device. Furthermore, the candela rotary selector is tamperproof — any unauthorized change triggers a panel trouble. For surface-mount installations, pair with the Gentex GSB-W or GSB-R surface back box. However, the GES3-24WR is not listed for outdoor use, and operating temperature is 32°–120°F (0°–49°C). Unit dimensions are 5″ H × 4.5″ W × 2.5″ D. For synchronization across multiple strobes, use the Gentex AVSM Control Module per NFPA 72.
