The Protectowire (PHSC-135-XLT) is a standard digital linear heat detector. It carries a fixed alarm temperature of 135°F (57°C). Furthermore, its Type XLT jacket is purpose-built for cold storage and freezers.
This detector provides line coverage with point sensitivity. First, two steel conductors are insulated with a heat-sensitive polymer. Then, they are twisted under spring pressure and jacketed. As a result, the conductors short at the first point that reaches the rated temperature.
Type XLT for Cold Storage
The XLT jacket suits extreme low temperatures. Specifically, it has low moisture absorption and excellent cold-weather performance. In fact, this detector is UL and FM tested down to -60°F (-51°C). Therefore, it fits freezers and refrigerated storage well.
