The Simplex 2088-9682 is a 3 in (76 mm) chrome catch plate extender rod. Specifically, it is an accessory for Simplex electromagnetic door holders. The rod extends the reach of the catch plate that engages the magnet face.
First, electromagnetic door holders keep fire-rated doors held open during normal building use. Then, on a fire alarm, the panel removes power from the magnet. As a result, the door swings shut to limit smoke spread. Therefore, the catch plate and armature must align cleanly with the magnet face.
When to Use the Simplex 2088-9682
This extender rod ships standard with the Simplex 2088-9607 and certain floor-mount door holder models. However, you may also need it in retrofit installs. Specifically, use it when the catch plate cannot reach the magnet face with the standard hardware. In addition, longer rods (such as the 1 in 2088-9681) are available for shorter gaps.

About Simplex Electromagnetic Door Holders
Door holders are normally energized to hold fire doors open with a minimum 25 lb pull. On alarm, the fire alarm control panel drops the holding voltage. As a result, the door closes under its own closer force. Therefore, proper catch plate alignment is essential for reliable hold and clean release.
