The Simplex 4098-9856 is a 49-inch plastic duct sampling tube. It is the inlet (sampling) tube used with Simplex TrueAlarm duct sensor housings such as the 4098-9755 and 4098-9756.
The tube extends into the HVAC duct from the housing. As a result, air flowing through the duct is drawn into the detector for smoke analysis. For accurate sampling, the tube should be about three inches longer than the duct width.
Where the Simplex 4098-9856 Fits
This 49″ length suits duct widths of 24″ to 46″ (610 mm to 1168 mm). For wider ducts, use the 4098-9858 (97″). For narrower ducts, use the shorter inlet tube options in the 4098-series family.

Compatible Duct Sensor Housings
The 4098-9856 fits the Simplex 4098-9755 (2-wire) and 4098-9756 (4-wire) TrueAlarm duct sensor housings. In addition, it fits legacy 4098-9685, 4098-9686, and 4098-9688 housings.
Installation Notes
- Tube must be at least 3″ longer than the duct width for proper sampling
- Install with sampling holes facing oncoming airflow (arrow on tube)
- Locate downstream of filters, away from supply registers and turbulence
- Follow Simplex installation instructions 574-776 for full housing setup
