The Gamewell MCS-PTIR is an intelligent multi-criteria detector that combines photoelectric, thermal, and infrared (PTIR) sensors in a single head. First, all three elements observe the environment simultaneously. Then the detector’s algorithms weigh the inputs and decide whether a real fire is present. As a result, the MCS-PTIR delivers heightened real-fire sensitivity with stronger nuisance-alarm immunity than any single-sensing detector.
How the Three Sensors Work Together
- Photoelectric: detects airborne particles associated with smoke
- Thermal: detects heat and rate of rise; alarms at the 135°F fixed threshold
- Infrared: reads light patterns and uses them as an additional data point for alarm determination, with the ability to reject nuisance triggers such as theater smoke
In addition, the detector can indicate distinct smoke and heat alarms. Therefore, an installation can pair a local photoelectric-only response with a general evacuation tied to thermal detection — useful in multi-level buildings where minimizing work interruption matters.
