The Simplex 4098-9747 is the field-replaceable CO sensing element for Simplex TrueAlarm CO sensor bases. Simplex calls it the CORC, short for CO Replacement Cartridge.
CO sensing elements have a finite service life. Therefore, the panel tracks each cartridge’s age and warns before it expires. When the cartridge expires, install a new 4098-9747 to restore full CO detection — without replacing the entire base.
What the Simplex 4098-9747 Does
The cartridge uses an electrolytic CO sensing module. As a result, it can measure carbon monoxide concentration in parts per million (ppm) and report it to the fire alarm panel. The host panel then applies UL 2034 alarm logic, OSHA-style ventilation thresholds, or multi-criteria fire algorithms.
Service Life and End-of-Life Tracking
- 4100ES and 4010ES panels: 10-year operational lifetime
- 4100U panels: 5-year operational lifetime
- Panel warns at 12 months and 6 months before expiration
- After expiration, the sensor continues to function but is reported as Expired (End of Life)
- Replacement is required to maintain UL 2034 detection accuracy
Compatible Sensor Bases
The 4098-9747 fits the Simplex 4098-9770 standard CO sensor base. In addition, it fits the 4098-9771 CO sensor base with sounder. Both bases also require a TrueAlarm photoelectric, photo/heat, or heat sensor — ordered separately.
Installation Notes
- Cartridge access requires removing the sensor head — sensor removal triggers a tamper trouble

- After replacement, verify the panel clears the End-of-Life trouble
- Functional test the new cartridge with a Solo Model 332 aerosol dispenser (or equivalent)
System Listings
When installed in a compatible CO sensor base, the cartridge is part of a system listed to UL 2034 (Carbon Monoxide Alarms) and UL 2075 (Gas and Vapor Detectors). The base assembly is also ULC listed to CSA 6.19-01 and CSFM listed (7300-0026:330).
