The Potter Electric Signal VSR-8 is a vane-type waterflow alarm switch for 8″ sprinkler pipe. It detects water movement in wet-pipe sprinkler systems. As a result, it signals the fire alarm panel when flow indicates a possible fire. Specifically, the VSR-8 fits 8″ (DN200) steel pipe, schedules 10 through 40.

How the Potter Electric Signal VSR-8 operates

A paddle inserts through the pipe and moves when water flows. Then, after a set retard period, the switch activates. This adjustable pneumatic retard runs from 0 to 90 seconds. Therefore, it helps prevent false alarms from surges or trapped air. The switch activates on a continuous flow of 10 GPM or more.

First, mount the VSR-8 on top of a horizontal pipe or on vertical pipe. Then orient the saddle arrow in the direction of waterflow. Finally, set the retard to the minimum delay needed to avoid false alarms.
