The Simplex 4098-9774 is the black-finish TrueAlarm analog addressable photoelectric smoke sensor. It uses light-scattering technology to detect smoke. The white-finish equivalent is the 4098-9714.

The sensor uses a pulsed infrared LED and a silicon photodiode receiver. As a result, it samples smoke levels every four seconds and reports the value digitally to the panel. Then the panel applies alarm and pre-alarm thresholds in software.

The panel selects from seven sensitivity levels, expressed in percent obscuration per foot. Standard sensitivities are 1.5%, 2.0%, 2.5%, 3.0%, and 3.7%. In addition, three high-sensitivity settings are available for clean environments: 0.2%, 0.5%, and 1.0%.

Listings include UL 268, ULC-S529, FM Approval, CSFM, and MEA (NYC) acceptance. Furthermore, the sensor head provides 360° smoke entry. Sensor dimensions: 4-7/8″ (124 mm) diameter × 2-1/8″ (54 mm) height.

Commercial-Only Sensor

This is a commercial sensor. It will only function with a Simplex fire alarm system. As a result, it will NOT operate as a stand-alone detector.

Compatible Panels

The 4098-9774 works with Simplex 4007ES, 4010, 4010ES, 4100ES, and 4100U on IDNet. It also works with 4020, 4100, and 4120 Series via Universal Transponders, and with the 2120 TrueAlarm CDT over MAPNET II.

Compatible Bases

Choose a base by finish and function. White options include 4098-9792 (standard) and 4098-9789. Black options include 4098-9776 (standard) and 4098-9775. For supervised relay output, use 4098-9791 (4-wire) or 4098-9780 (2-wire).
