The Simplex 49VO-APPLC is a ceiling-mount visual-only (strobe) notification appliance. It is the “appliance only” piece — the cover/skirt is a separate part in the Simplex Alert system.
A visual-only appliance produces a strobe flash with no audible component. As a result, designers use it where additional visual coverage is needed beyond the speaker/strobes already in the design. In addition, ceiling mounting helps in open-plan rooms and corridors where wall coverage is limited.
