Simplex (4905-9938) SmartSync Control Module 0626630

The Simplex 4905-9938 is the SmartSync Control Module (SCM) for Simplex fire alarm systems. Specifically, it converts two conventional NAC inputs into a single SmartSync two-wire NAC output. As a result, horns and strobes share the same circuit while the horns remain silenceable without disabling the strobes.

In addition, this module is the Class A or Class B output variant. The Simplex cross-reference is 0626630. Therefore, it is widely used to retrofit legacy notification circuits to modern audible-silence behavior.

What the Simplex 4905-9938 Does

First, the SCM accepts two standard NAC inputs from the host panel. Then, it combines them onto one SmartSync output that drives compatible TrueAlert non-addressable horns, strobes, A/V, and S/V appliances. As a result, a single pair of wires carries both horn drive and strobe drive.

Furthermore, the host panel can silence the audible while the SCM keeps strobes flashing. Therefore, the building can be alarmed visually for hearing-impaired occupants even after audible silence.

Output Modes

The 4905-9938 supports several output modes, switch-selectable on the module:

• ANSI temporal coded (T3 fire pattern)
• March time coded at 60 beats per minute
• Continuous on

In addition, strobes synchronize at 1 Hz across all appliances on the SmartSync output. Therefore, the strobes flash in unison in any space where multiple appliances are visible at once.

System-Wide Synchronization

Up to eight SCMs can be interconnected so that all SmartSync outputs synchronize across the system. Furthermore, the interconnect wiring is supervised. As a result, a broken sync wire is reported as a trouble at the panel.

Important Voltage Note

However, SmartSync appliances were tested to operating voltage limits of 16 VDC and 33 VDC. Therefore, the supply voltage should not be operated outside these limits. Otherwise, appliance performance or sync timing may be compromised.
